El Morado Natural Monument encompasses an area of 3,000 hectares at altitudes ranging from 1,750 to 5060 meters above sea level. The park is located in the center of the spectacular Andes Mountains, and has enjoyed protection since 1974. It’s main attractions include: The San Francisco Glacier, El Morado Lagoon, and of course beautiful high alpine scenery.

 

Itinerary

8:00 hrs: Our transport vehicle will meet you at your Santiago hotel to transport you to the Cascada de las Animas Nature Santuary. At Cascada de las Animas you will meet your trekking guide and relax for a coffee, before continuing onwards to the El Morado Natural Monument, arriving at approximately 10:30 AM. After arriving at the park, you will begin an enjoyable trek along the park trails.

 

Your trek will be done in four stages:

 

Stage 1: Trailhead to Aguas Panimávida, a carbonated spring that bubbles up from deep in the earth. Trekking time: 1 Hour
Distance 2.8 Km.

 

Stage 2: Agua Panimávida to Laguna El Morado situated at 2.200 meters above sea level.
Trekking Time: 45 minutes.
Distance: 2.2 Km.

 

Stage 3: Laguna El Morado to the base of the San Francisco Glacier.

 

Stage 4: Return.
